Flagstaff

For our anniversary this year, Tim and I decided to take a trip to Flagstaff.  It was just a day trip, as so many things always seem to be going on during these first weeks in August when school starts.  But, we knew we would be able to get out of the heat.  We were having a heat wave, even for Phoenix, that was stifling and seemed to be dragging out.  The digits were in the One Teens!  Meaning, we were averaging over 110 degrees everyday!
In the desert, the sky is nearly always blue.  If you get clouds, they are white, fluffy and spread out.  Rarely is there a gray overcast day.  I dislike gray, overcast days.  I saw lots of them growing up in St. Louis.  It was more rare that you had a clear, blue sky there.  So, one of the things I have loved about living in Arizona is how often the days are clear and blue.
The funny thing about us Phoenicians is that we love the gray, overcast days now when they come because they are so rare.  But up in Flagstaff, away from the heat drenched dust bowl of Phoenix, we were able to enjoy a gray and dreary day and we loved it!

The sky poured with rain off and on throughout the day.  We didn't even get to do most of the things we wanted to do that day.  But it did not matter, because we just lapped up the rain and the cool air.

It was even just slightly chilly!
