Beating The Heat

I live in Arizona.  It gets dang hot!  Tim and I decided to combat the heat this year, or rather not the heat, but maybe the A/C bills. We bought some insulation for our attic.  When we moved into our house in June 2003, there was virtually no insulation in the attic.  After a whopping $500+ electric the first month of  living here, we promptly insulated the attic.  With lots and lots of insulation.  Or so we thought.  However, a new standard has come out for the recommended R factor for this climate, and we did not come close.  So, while the extra insulation improved things to a point, Tim decided it could use another boost of the stuff to be more effective.
So, we bought the insulation, rented the machine, and Tim braved the attic and all its perils to blow additional fibers into every nook and cranny of our attic.

At least it was done in April and not in August like the first time.  While the attic is never a pleasant place to be, the attic in August could be downright deadly.  This time we planned ahead and did it while it was cooler.
And we have estimated we have saved about $100 a month this summer cooling our house.  There sure is a sense of security in all that. And we could sure use the boost!

  1. Tim is one handy man to have around! I think it is great he can take on projects like that and save money all the way around -- by insulating the house and doing it himself! Good work!
