True Summertime

On my way home from work yesterday, I saw four boys headed down the sidewalk of a neighboring subdivision as I was passing through.  I would guess these boys were about 10 or 11.

The one ahead was on a bicycle and riding fast to his destination.  They had towels around their necks and were most likely headed to the enjoy the delights sought by a cool swimming pool.

The second boy was at the heels of the bicycler, riding a scooter.  His effort was much greater as he had to work so much harder to keep the pace of the boy on the bike.

The third boy in line was running as fast as he could, chest thrust forward, head back, and silly skate board shoes that were barely staying on his feet trying to catch up with the first two.

And in the rear was a boy on a waveboard trying to go as fast as he could, in a pair of socks. But it was clearly the most difficult effort of all and was taking a great deal of coordination and movement as he worked twice as hard as the other boys just to keep up with them.

Watching them thorougly enjoying the moment, without regard to the heat, and the effort, and the race they did not even know they were having brought back so many memories of my own boys, just loving summertime and the freedoms it gave them.
