Sitting in the nursery at church yesterday, as I substituted, there were three women. We were all in different stages in our lives, yet our paths were the same. We discussed our trials in a general way, between chasing down a child or helping them with a puzzle, and it was amazing to see how, while one was pregnant and had three children already under age 5, and the other was on her way to grandmother world, and I, somewhere in between, we still felt the same about the paths we wanted to be on and the paths we hoped our children took and stayed on as well. Some trials we had already been through while others were yet to face us. And age had little to do with what we had faced. One had already faced cancer and another had to face the death of a loved one recently. Some of us had less children while another had a large family. One of us never raised a daughter and the others compared the experience between raising daughters and sons. Some have never known financial struggles while others deal constantly. In spite of our differences, the similarities were much more prominent. We all wanted to be on the path that led us back to our Heavenly Father and we all wanted to see our children grow, mature, be strong, and be on that path as well. And while we all had very different personalities and experiences in our lives, they were not so different after all because we all have seen the hand of the Lord in our lives that have helped us to grow and arrive at the places we all are right now. And I am grateful for the sisterhood we share in the Gospel that allows all kinds of people to share common goals and spiritual experiences and can lift each other up in our trials.
