Galveston Island, Texas
Behind Tim is a Pier called Pleasure Pier, which has just recently opened. It is a "re-make" of sorts of a former time when there was a boardwalk of this nature for tourists to enjoy back in the middle of the previous century days. The developer of this amusement park enjoyed such a pier as a child.
In 2008, Hurricane Ike flooded 75% of Galveston Island, bringing much damage and destruction in its path. As insurance companies go, it has taken a long time for the money to be seen for the rebuilding, thus, much of this island is still in disrepair.
But build again they do, in spite of the Gulf's constant attack by Mother Nature.
And in spite of the fact that the skies seem so gray and dreary each day, people still flocked to rebuild in order to have some waterfront property.
These new homes were so gorgeous! But the way I understand it, whomever has waterfront property today, will lose it in the next hurricane and the neighbors in the row behind will become the new waterfront! What a crazy way to live!
