The Pomegranates are Ready!

A few months ago we planted a pomegranate tree. There was fruit on it.  We never saw it get any bigger but eventually it must have ripened because a week or so ago I saw that the fruit had popped open from ripeness. 

But you can see that the fruit is tiny.  The seeds were extremely sour.  Then someone told me that there are two varieties of pomegranates, fruit bearing and ornamental.  I hope we didn't buy an ornamental tree.  I planned on the fruit.  But this one, while edible, was so sour and small that I am wondering if we got the wrong variety.  Hopefully we will see some growth and sweetness as the months progress.
